NAIROBI-Kenya: Fr Felix Mabvuto Phiri smm launches a new book

The Montfort Scholasticate Community of Nairobi is happy to celebrate the publication of a new book by Fr. Felix Mabvuto Phiri, SMM:

Felix Mabvuto Phiri, Reconciliation: A Scandal of Divine-human Self-emptying Love, CUEA, Nairobi 2014.

The title of the book is Reconciliation: A Scandal of Divine-human Self-emptying Love, and it is published by the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi. The book is the result of a research conducted by Fr Felix in partial fulfilment of the requirements for a Doctorate in Theology (Boston, Jesuit University).

In a world deeply marked by violence, hatred and war, the book of Fr Felix addresses the urgent and universal need for “Reconciliation”.  His approach is unique and inspiring. He shows “how the Eucharist is related to the ‘real world’ instead of being a purely discreet sacramental activity that brings us into contact with the holy.” It is based on the presupposition that the Eucharist is the root to reconciliation and to embodying the “Church-as-Family of God” value in the African perspective. Fr. Felix argues that if the Eucharist has no direct consequences for the way people live then we can assume there is something deeply wrong with the way we celebrate.

Fr. Felix Phiri urges us to “confront the logos of war and violence with the logos of love revealed to us by Jesus Christ, the Crucified in his self-giving and forgiving surrender to humanity, in his life and in his passion.”

This reminds us of our responsibility as Christians: “The joy and hope, the grief and anguish of the men [and women] of our time, especially of those who are poor or afflicted in any way, are the joy and hope, the grief and anguish of the followers of Christ as well (GS art. 1).

Let us join the Scholasticate Community of Nairobi in supporting and praying for Fr. Felix Mabvuto Phiri as he is launching his book at Hekima College, Jesuit School of Theology.  The date of launching will soon be announced.

The book which costs 900 Kenyan Shillings (10.44 US Dollars) will be available at SMM Scholasticate in Nairobi and at Hekima College.
